As the sun slowly sets, the sky is painted with hues of pink and orange. A herd of zebras leisurely roam on the grassland, while giraffes gather at the lake for a drink.

The soft light outlines their silhouettes and highlights the unique shapes of the baobab trees. In the distance, Hemingway’s Mount Kilimanjaro shines like gold in the refracted light.

What can you witness with your camera in Kenya?

Herds of elephants

Elephants that occasionally fall alone

Usually when it comes to Kenya, everyone will first mention the Masai Mara, in fact, if it is not divided by the great migration of animals, it is difficult for Kenya to have a low and peak season, and this country is the home of animals.

If you want to see herds of elephants, I would definitely recommend Amboseli Park, which is not as famous as the Masai Mara, but the number, division and magnificence of the elephant herd, set against the backdrop of the snow-capped mountains of Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, far surpass the Masai Mara, famous for its great animal migration.

Here you can also photograph wolves, bears, baboons, bats, eland, duiker, badgers, foxes, leopards, lions, hooves, mongooses, cats, black-faced monkeys, squirrels, hares, jackals, porcupines, rhinos, zebras, pigs, reeds, hogs, monkeys, pythons, dry turtles, tree-eyed snakes, and more.

Flamingos that are quiet when the sun sets

If you’re lucky, you might encounter millions of flamingos in Boglia.

Lake Borgria, located in Kenya on the east side of Africa, in the north of Lake Barringo, on the edge of the Great Rift Valley, is a calcium carbonate lake rather than a freshwater lake, covering an area of about 30 square kilometers, Lake Borgria, like the lake around it, is also home to many African flamingos (flamingos), from January to April every year, tens of thousands of flamingos will gather here, hence the title of “Flamingo City”.

Regarding the problem that flamingos inhabit the lake is also divided into dry season and rainy season, the lake where flamingos inhabit belongs to calcium carbonate lake, and when Kenya encounters a long rainy season (roughly in October-November), due to the increase in rainfall, the amount of calcium carbonate in the lake decreases, so some birds will fly away.

The protagonists in “Zootopia” – the famous Big Five in Africa

Little cheetahs

In addition to the sloth, the most outstanding animal in “Zootopia” may be the “African Five”. The lion is the mayor, the police chief is an African buffalo, the front desk is a cheetah, and the police officers include elephants, black rhinos and wolves and other domineering wild animals.

Maybe you didn’t know that the creative team of Zootopia really sent a team to Kenya, Africa, to observe the animals, and you can catch them everywhere in nature.

Wilbeest in a gallop

Kenya has more than 50 national parks, the most famous of which are the Masai Mara and the two seasons of the year, when millions of wildebeest roar to the Serengeti savannah, across the grassland and across the river, some of which are dragged into the water by crocodiles lurking in the river to become food in the belly.

The magical tribe on the edge of the steppe – the Maasai people that lions are afraid of

Maasai jumping competition

The Maasa, the most famous nomadic tribe still active in East Africa, has a population of nearly 100 million.

The Maasai people, who live on livestock, are a completely nomadic people, herding in herds all year round, almost entirely living on the meat, blood and milk of their animals.

Young men are traditionally called morans between the ages of about 14 and 30. At this stage of life they had to live alone in the jungle, learn tribal customs and exercise their strength, courage and endurance, which the Maasai warriors were famous for, and the legend that adult men had to hunt a lion each!

Maasai costumes

The Maasai usually wore animal skins, and the typical Maasai dress was wrapped in a red cloth (shukka) and a large number of beaded jewelry around the neck and arms. These colors and clothing vary depending on the occasion.

Maasai is also known for their dances, in which village men jump into the air to show off their strength and endurance. Each young man will jump high, the higher the stronger he is, while the others stand in a circle and sing around them.

Palm kernel vulture in Samburu reserve

The forest along the river in the Samburu Reserve is home to many birds, including local species such as the Palm Nut Vulture and Vinaceous Dove.

The forest is also a habitat for leopards, which often emerge at dusk, and seeing these beautiful and elusive animals is always a rare treat.

Lions can also be seen on the riverbank, while cheetahs can be found on the open plains, and occasionally packs of African wild dogs can be seen crossing the reserve. Here you can also enjoy unique animals such as giraffes, Grevy’s zebras, oryx, and Samburu giraffes.

The Aberdare Mountains have three peaks here, all above 3000 meters, making this area known as the heart of Kenya.
